Valentines Day Dinner

A Perfect Valentines Day Dinner – Steak and Beetroot Salad

“O my Luve’s like a red, red rose,

That’s newly sprung in June:
O my Luve’s like the melodie,
That’s sweetly play’d in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.

I love poems, in fact I wrote a lot of them when I was in my middle school, in my mother tongue of course. Inspired by aTaiwanese author who writes novels in a form as poetry, I found it incredible easy to write things that made me look smart. Let’s All Cook Like a Chemist – Rendang Daging (Indonesian Coconut Beef Curry)

First of all, this post is NOT about cooking whatever you think it is based on the title I chose with my extraordinary English skill, you are probably just too overwhelmingly inspired by some TV series like Breaking Bad… Your mom probably has already told you that televisions are evils and she did not lie in this case.

In the post from yesterday, we talked about making asian chili pepper paste with its distant relatives - Habañero, Jalapeño and Bell Pepper. If you happen to live on the other side of world and have the love for spicy asian food, you should totally try that. It doesn’t only taste good, the experience of making it would make you feel like a scientist doing a chemical experiment in your lab. If you happen to have full chemical engineer suit and glasses on… it just can’t be better now.

Talking about cooking like a chemist, there’s nothing more exciting than making curries.  It’s just magical to create such rich and complex flavors by mixing different spices and herds together. Once you’ve tried it, I promise you will never grab those nasty japanese curry cubes while shopping for groceries any more. Read More

Chili-peppers

A Substitution for Asian Chili Pepper (those skinny ones…)

I love the rainy season in Indonesia when everything turns green and the whole world is just full of life blooming like roses. Well, not particularly the insects part, it can get quite nasty if I start talking about insects in the rainy season. Anyways, let’s still keep the hippie spirit at least in this first paragraph~ A couple of days ago, a young couple of white headed munias just built a love nest in the small tree right next to our driveway… ok, that’s enough… Read More
